Spiral hose manufacturing process

Spiral hoses are manufactured in a wide variety of ways, and we have many years of experience in processing and using different manufacturing technologies. Whether extrusion or clip: Learn all about our hose manufacturing processes.

In extrusion (from Latin: extrudere = to push out, drive out), plastics or other viscous, hardenable materials are pressed through a die in a continuous process. For this purpose, the plastic, the extrudate, is first melted and homogenized by an extruder (also called a screw press) by means of heating and internal friction. Furthermore, the pressure necessary for the material to flow through the die is built up in the extruder. The process is very similar to injection molding up to this point, but differs primarily in that extrusion is a continuous process. When a plastic profile is extruded, a spring steel wire is cast into the profile to resist twisting and displacement. The tube is then helically and overlappingly welded to its final shape.

In the field of profile-extruded PU spiral hoses, Masterduct is an important system partner for the machine construction industry.

"Clip" production process: spiral hoses with clamping profile

The processing of prefabricated film or plastic fabrics offers us a wide range of options for responding flexibly to our customers' requirements. A specific clamping profile ("clip") is required so that a tube can be manufactured from individual foil or fabric strips. It is supplied as a steel strip and is converted into a profile using special forming tools. The fabric strips are inserted into this clamping profile - while the clipping machine moves the profile in a helical motion and at the same time "squeezes" the clamping profile shut. With this special clamping process, the hose profile is mechanically and at the same time extremely tension-resistant connected to the external metal spiral.

In addition to clip production, Masterduct has additional options for manufacturing hoses from pre-produced film or plastic fabric. Here, foil or fabric strips are wound up in a spiral and welded overlapping. In this production step, additional support coils made of spring steel wire or plastic can be embedded in the hose cover or welded on from the outside.

Coating - production of special connections

In the coating production area, we concentrate our expertise in the processing of cast elastomers. We use the ability to cast plastics in specially designed molds, for example, in the production of special connecting parts or in the processing of sleeves. Such specific solutions, in which individual hoses are connected precisely and reliably to other functional parts, are aimed at customers who are looking for suitable hose accessories.

Vulcanization

Vulcanization is a chemical-technical process developed by Charles Goodyear in 1839. With the help of this process, plastic is made resistant to atmospheric and chemical influences as well as to mechanical stress under the influence of time, temperature and pressure. After this process, the processed material has permanently elastic properties and returns to its original shape when subjected to mechanical stress. It also has higher tensile strength, ductility and resistance to aging and weathering.
